Explaining sustainable aviation fuel to a six year old
Used cooking oil and leftover plants, and an aircraft that still flies. Writing Clean Fuel meant finding the version of SAF that is true, simple and not a fairy tale.

Sustainable aviation fuel is made from things like leftover plants and used cooking oil, and aircraft can fly on it. That sentence is true, and it is most of what a six year old needs.
The temptation is to stop there and let the child believe the problem is solved. It is not, and a book that implies otherwise will be corrected by reality within a few years, which is a poor way to be trusted.
So Clean Fuel says what SAF does: it lets an aircraft fly while putting less into the air than the fuel it replaces. It does not say aviation is now clean, and it does not pretend the supply is unlimited.
Children handle that better than adults expect. A thing that helps, and is not yet enough, is a shape they already understand from tidying a room.
