Cookie policy
We use almost none. Here is exactly what this site stores on your device, what each item does, and how to change your mind.
What this policy is about
Cookies are small text files a site asks your browser to keep. Local storage does much the same job in a slightly different drawer of the same browser. Both let a site remember something between pages or between visits, and both are covered here, so where this policy says cookies, it means anything stored on your device.
It sits alongside the privacy policy at /privacy, which covers personal information more broadly.
How we use them
Three things are stored so the site behaves sensibly: your cookie choice, your preview cart, and one hint that should not repeat. None of them leaves your browser. One more, Google Analytics, is loaded only if you accept it, and it is the only thing here that sends anything to a third party.
That is the entire list. There is no advertising, no retargeting, no social pixel and no cross-site tracking on this site.

Strictly necessary, and functional
sn-cookie-consent is strictly necessary: without it we could not record the choice you made, and the banner would ask again on every page. It is stored whichever way you answer, including when you decline.
sn-cart and sn:film-guide-seen are functional. They make the site pleasant rather than possible: a cart that survives a refresh, a hint that does not repeat. Neither holds anything about you. Both live in your browser only, and neither is transmitted to our server.
Analytics, only if you accept
If you choose Accept, we load Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are actually read. It sets the first-party cookies named above and records pages viewed, approximate location from a truncated IP address, device, browser and how you arrived. It does not receive your name or your email address, and we do not link analytics data to anything you have sent us through a form.
Google processes that data on our behalf, under its own terms, and may process it outside Malaysia. We use it to improve the site, and for nothing else.
If you choose Decline, or have not chosen yet, the Analytics script is never loaded and none of its cookies are set. If you accept and then change your mind, collection stops on the page you are on, and the script is not loaded again on your next visit.
What we do not use
For completeness, because most cookie policies bury this:
- No advertising or retargeting cookies, and no ad networks.
- No social media pixels, share widgets or embedded third-party players.
- No device fingerprinting, and no cross-site tracking.
- No sharing or selling of analytics data for advertising, and no audience lists passed to anyone.
- No third-party fonts loaded from another company's server: our typefaces are served from our own domain, so reading a page tells nobody else that you were here.
Changing your mind
Use the cookie preferences link in the footer of any page. It reopens the banner, and your new choice takes effect immediately.
You can also clear your browser's site data for specialnorth.com, which removes everything in the table above; the banner will then ask again on your next visit.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you see what a site has stored, delete it, and block cookies or local storage for one site or for all of them. Look under Settings, then Privacy, Security or Site settings. Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge each publish step-by-step instructions.
Blocking storage for this site is entirely your right. The consequence here is small: the cookie banner will reappear on each visit, and your preview cart will not survive a refresh. Nothing else on the site depends on it.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
There is still no agreed standard for how a site should answer a Do Not Track header, so we do not claim to honour one. We do not need to: nothing is loaded for tracking purposes unless you have actively accepted it, which is the outcome those signals ask for.
Changes and contact
If we add a service that stores anything on your device, the table above is updated before it ships, and the date at the top of this page changes with it. Anything that tracks you would be added to the banner as a choice, not slipped in as a default.
